FOCS Blames Deforestation for Hailstorm Havoc; Launches Drives Against Price Hikes

In the aftermath of the recent hailstorm that ravaged Manipur, the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) has issued a stern warning to shop owners against price hikes, attributing the havoc to extensive deforestation in the region.

The hailstorm wreaked havoc on many homes, crops, and poultry farms in Manipur, prompting FOCS to urge shop owners not to raise prices amidst the crisis. According to FOCS, the widespread destruction caused by the hailstorm can be traced back to massive deforestation, particularly in the hills surrounding the valley, where poppy cultivation has been rampant.

In addition to condemning price hikes, FOCS has announced plans to launch drives to investigate reports of increased prices for roofing sheets. The organization has pledged to closely monitor the situation and appeals to the Weight and Measures Department to intervene and ensure fair pricing practices are upheld.

FOCS also extends gratitude to the Relief and Disaster Management Department and local volunteers who swiftly responded to the destruction caused by the natural calamity. Their efforts have been crucial in providing relief to affected communities during this challenging time.
