Imphal, July 3:
In the wake of the Iril River breaching its banks, severe flooding has affected the residents of Thangjam Leikai in Taret Khul, Imphal East. The breach, approximately 100 feet in length, resulted in substantial water inundation, submerging homes and displacing families.
“Responding to the crisis, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, along with the local MLA of Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, Th. Lokeshwar, promptly reached the affected area to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts. The floodwaters have led to significant challenges, including potential health hazards and property damage.
“MLA Lokeshwar, upon his visit, took immediate stock of the situation, emphasizing the urgency of the relief operations. The SDRF team, comprising 15 personnel, actively engaged in rescue operations, providing necessary assistance to the flood-affected families.”The MLA voiced strong concerns over the inadequate flood prevention measures, specifically pointing to the failure of retaining walls and the negligence of the contractors and officials involved in the project. He called for stringent penalties against the responsible parties and demanded immediate intervention from the Water Resource Minister, Chief Engineer, and other officials to prevent such incidents in the future.”MLA Lokeshwar and the SDRF team received commendations from the local residents for their swift action and support.
