Rabi Khan, spokesperson of Manipur Congress, has expressed apprehension over potential violations of the model code of conduct during the election period, emphasizing the need to address issues of corruption and malpractice. During a press conference held today, Rabi Khan voiced concerns regarding recent gatherings of women at Chief Minister Biren Singh’s residence.
Rabi Khan said that “many women seen gathering inside the Chief Minister’s office, causing traffic disruptions in the vicinity.” He noted the existence of videos documenting these gatherings, suggesting a deliberate attempt to influence voters through the distribution of freebies.
Moreover, he drew attention to the ongoing violence and the displacement of individuals living in relief camps, indicating a climate of unrest within the state. He emphasized the ongoing demand from the public to refrain from engaging in mass campaigning and celebratory activities, especially amidst such challenging circumstances.
In light of these developments, Khan lamented “the current state of election culture and urged for a transformative approach to electoral practices. He warned of the potential consequences of failing to address these issues, asserting that history would judge those involved.”
Given all these matter, “a complaint has been filed by the Congress party to the Chief Election Commissioner,” he added. At the end, he stressed the call for a collective effort to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and foster a culture of accountability and transparency. He stressed the importance of addressing the concerns raised and working towards building a fair and just electoral system in Manipur.
