COCOMI Students’ Front appeals for participation in rally for integrity

IT News,
Imphal, June 27:

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI)’s student front, comprising five prominent student organizations, has issued a call to all students and educators across various educational institutions to join a rally tomorrow aimed at safeguarding the integrity of Manipur.
COCOMI, the parent organization, announced the rally yesterday, urging the indigenous population to show a unified front. The rally, expected to have significant implications for parliamentary proceedings, will take place from THAU ground to Khuman Lampak, starting at 9 AM. COCOMI emphasized that this is a decisive moment for the community.
Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei, a prominent student leader within COCOMI’s student front, highlighted the importance of this rally, themed “Safeguarding Manipur” or “Manipur Kanba Khongchat.” He has called upon students from class IX to university level, as well as teachers, to participate in the movement.
“It has been a year since the Meitei-Kuki conflict began, leading to deaths and displacements, with many people still living in relief camps. The government has not taken adequate action, and we believe these events are part of a strategy to marginalize the indigenous communities,” said a COCOMI spokesperson.
The student front includes notable student organizations such as the Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK), the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), and the Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), all rallying together to support the cause.
Meanwhile, at a press conference held today at the COCOMI office in Lamphel, the COCOMI Women Wing urged everyone, including students, government employees, Meira Paibis, and local clubs, to join the mass rally scheduled for tomorrow. They also called on Ministers, MLAs, politicians, and others to set aside their political differences and participate in the rally to save Manipur and demonstrate unity. The rally will begin at THAU Ground ,Thangmeiband at 9:00 am and congregate at the Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak.
