COCOMI boycotts Manipur Government over failure to respect people’s resolution

Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has boycotted Manipur Government under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh over the government’s failure to respect the people’s resolution adopted on July 29 at Hapta Kangjeibung.
Speaking to reporters here in Imphal, the Convenor of the COCOMI Jeetendra Ningombam said that as the government has no respect for the people’s resolution, the people and the COCOMI have no choice but to boycott the present government. He said that the people of the state along with the COCOMI will not attend any government function or any other programme organized by the MLAs.
Jeetendra further said that the people are not happy with the inaction of the central forces when the Kuki groups are vandalizing and cleaning the Meitei houses in Kangvai area where they had proposed for mass burial of the dead bodies of those Kuki community killed during the violence.
“People of the state had strongly opposed the plan for mass burial of the Kuki people killed in the violence that erupted since May 3”, Jeetendra said. He added that after the August 3 incident where a large number of women and youths thronged to the Torbung area to resist the burial plan of the Kukis at Torbung area. Security forces fired tear gas shells and disperse the gathering using maximum force. In the CAF action over 40 women and youths including a journalist sustained injury and were hospitalized. On the next day. i.e. on the wee hour of Aug 4, three Meitei villagers were shot and butchered inhumanly at Kwakta. Jeetendra said that the COCOMI condemn the killing of the three Meitei people in the most heinous way. He called the killing an inhuman act.
Jeetendra further said that the Central Forces deployed here have remained a mute spectator to any unruly behaviours of the Kuki people when maximum forces were used towards the Meitei community. He said that on Aug 5 a large number of Kuki women and youths came to Torbung area and bulldoze the Meitei houses at the nose of the Central Forces deployed there. He said that the CAF present there sent a free hand to the Kuki people and allowed them to vandalize and bulldoze the abandoned houses of the Meitei people.
