Imphal, April 8:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the BJP-led Central Government has been providing continuous assistance to the government of Manipur since the clashes between the Kuki and Meitei tribes erupted in 2023, with ongoing efforts for relief and rehabilitation. Modi emphasized that the timely allocation of resources by the Indian Government, amidst the violent ethnic clashes witnessed in Manipur last year, significantly ameliorated the situation in the strife-torn state.
In an interview with Assam Tribune, Prime Minister asserted that the crisis in Manipur should be approached with as a sense of “collective responsibility.” “We’ve dedicated our best resources and administrative machinery to resolving the conflict. Because of the timely intervention of the Government of India and efforts made by the Government of Manipur, there has been a marked improvement in the situation of the State,” he added.
On Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Manipur last year, PM Modi said, “Home Minister Amit Shah stayed in Manipur while the conflict was at its peak, holding 15-plus meetings with various stakeholders to help resolve the conflict.”
PM Modi conveyed that the BJP-led Central Government has been steadfastly aiding the government of Manipur since the eruption of clashes between the Kuki and Meitei tribes in 2023, with ongoing efforts for relief and rehabilitation.
“Remedial measures undertaken include a financial package for the relief and rehabilitation of people living in shelter camps in the State,” Modi said. “Since 2014, more than Rs 14,000 crore has been spent to promote higher education in the Northeast. The country’s first Sports University has been opened in Manipur. We are building more than 200 Khelo India centres across the 8 states,” Modi added.
PM Modi’s remarks on Manipur were made in light of the upcoming election. Previously, there had been considerable pressure from civil society organizations and the general public for him to address the conflict in Manipur.
