Cable TV digitisation workshop for Nodal officers held

Imphal, July 20: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India has organised Cable TV Digitization Workshop for nodal officers of North Eastern States today at Hotel Classic Grande at Chingmeirong Imphal.
On the occasion, Yogendra Pal, Advisor Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that during the workshop of the nodal officers especially from North Eastern regions, discussions will be on the various provisions of the Cable Television Network Act, if somebody violates the Act the actions that suppose to be taken up, if somebody runs unauthorised channels what actions can be taken up, who are authorised persons etc. 
Cable TV Digitization has many positive sides. Digitization enables efficient utilization of the spectrum bandwidth available on the cable and thereby drastically enhances the capacity to carry channels on cable. It gives choice to consumers. It brings in transparency as the signals of the cable operator are encrypted and can be received only through a set top box after due authorization from the service provider, he added.
Though the workshop was organised for the nodal officers of North Eastern States, it was mainly attended by the nodal officers from Manipur and Nagaland.
It is worth to mention that the Ministry has laid down the schedules for digitization of the Cable TV Networks in India in four phases. The dateline for Phase I was 31st October 2012, the II phase was 31st March 2013, the III phase was 31st December 2015 and the IV phase will go till 31st December 2016. Manipur belong to the IV phase.
