In a heartfelt demonstration of solidarity, the Bangladeshi Meitei community held a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, to express their support for the Meitei in Manipur who have been suffering from violence perpetrated by Chin Kuki Narco terrorists since May 3. The event, titled “Support for Manipur,” took place at 1:00 PM and was attended by prominent figures including Apu Ngangbam, Dijen Ngangbam, and Rajib Konthoujam from Bangladesh, alongside Rakesh Naorem and Ariya Sapam from Manipur.
In a press statement release in connected with their efforts, they have strongly condemned the attacks and emphasized their unwavering support for the Meitei staying in relief camps. They highlighted the community’s proactive efforts to aid their brethren by donating a sum of Rs. 175,000 to the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) in Manipur. The donation, which was handed over to PAWF Secretary Rakesh Naorem, has been submitted to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to further assist those affected by the conflict.
The Bangladeshi Meitei representatives visited Manipur on May 31 and toured eleven relief camps across the districts of Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East. Their visit was aimed at providing moral support and assessing the needs of the displaced individuals in these camps. The camps they visited included Sugunu Municipal Relief Camp, Kha Maikei Kanba Relief Camp, Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai Relief Camp, Wangoo Ahallup Higher Secondary School Relief Camp, Thanga Wangma High School Relief Camp (Thanga Moirangthem Leikai), Thanga Chingkha Relief Camp, Phayeng High School Relief Camp, Displaced Students Relief Camp at Meijrao, Mayang Imphal Relief Camp, District Sports Complex Relief Camp at Wangjing, and Nongada Relief Camp at Lamlai.
In their statement, they have stressed the importance of preserving the unique culture, identity, language, script, literature, and sports of the Manipuri people. They called on both the Manipur state government and the Central government to urgently resolve the conflict that has plagued the state for over a year.
