Assam Rifles recovers contraband items

Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovers forty cartons of Foreign Cigarettes and Betel Nuts from Choktong-Rilram Centre road in Tengnoupal District on Wednesday.
A release said that at around 08:00 AM, of the day troops of Assam Rifles established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post on Choktong-Rilram Centre road. Troops of Assam Rifles noticed three Kenbo bikes carrying cartons travelling towards Rilram Centre. On seeing the Security Forces, the individuals dropped the cartons and fled into the jungle. On pursuing them, troops found more cartons hidden inside the jungle. On carrying out a thorough search of the area, forty cartons of Foreign Cigarettes worth Rupees 60 lakhs and 55 Kilograms of Betel Nuts worth Rupees 1.32 lakhs were found hidden in the jungles.
The recovered items have been handed over to Custom Office, Pallel for further investigations.
