Heavily armed Kuki-Zo militants forced three vehicles of the Assam Rifles to turn back from T. Yangnom Village, located about 500 meters from Moreh Police station, this morning. Sources say that the Assam Rifles troopers inside the Casper vehicles did not respond, but instead turned back and returned to their camp.
Videos shown on local cable TV depicted the heavily armed Kuki militants, consisting of around 20 males, pointing guns at the driver of the Assam Rifles’ Casper vehicles. Some of them were seen wielding sophisticated weapons and shouting at the Assam Rifles troopers to turn back. The troopers in the vehicles did not respond, and none of them were seen exiting the vehicles.
Earlier, on January 14, Army personnel from the 20 Jat Regiment brutally assaulted a group of unarmed women at Sabungkhok Khunou in Imphal West district. Eight women were seriously injured and hospitalized as a result of the army’s actions. The unarmed women were protesting the security forces’ inaction against the armed Kuki narco-terrorists who attacked the Meitei villagers.
