Anti AFSPA crusader Pebam Chittaranjan remembered; paid fitting tributes

Anti-AFSPA crusader Pebam Chittaranjan was remembered on his 19th death anniversary today.
28-year-old Pebam Chittaranjan who was then advisor of the Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) sacrificed his life by indulging in self-immolation demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state in 2004. He succumbed to his injuries at RIMS hospital, Imphal where he was admitted with 85 percent burns and died on August 16, 2004.
Students, members of civil society organizations among others paid tribute to Anti AFSPA crusader. Manipur Students Federation (MSF) organised the day on the theme “19th Students’ Martyrdom Day 2023 to excel Right to Life”. In view of the ongoing crisis the Students’ Martyrdom Day observed to show respect to Pebam Chittaranjan was held by conducting the rituals only.
The day is also observed at Students’ Martyrdom Complex in Bishnupur district. People from all wakes of live paid fitting floral tribute to the statue of the martyred at Bishnupur Bazar. A public meeting was also held.
