Another attack to civilians: Suspected Kuki Militants bombards and fire gunshots at Koutruk

In a distressing turn of events in Koutruk, Imphal West district, suspected Kuki Militants unleashed a barrage of gunfire around 12:10 pm. However, amidst the chaos, the vigilant village volunteers of Koutruk, displaying courage, fired back in defense, preventing any injuries or fatalities among the civilians.
Jiten, a local resident, shared the harrowing details with the Imphal Times, recounting that approximately 60 bullets, along with 2 explosive devices, were discharged towards Koutruk village. The prolonged assault, lasting for approximately 2 hours, originated from the Bathel areas, creating a climate of fear and insecurity among the residents.
Responding swiftly to the potential dangers, the community took measures to ensure safety, temporarily relocating women, children, and the elderly to safer areas such as Phumlou and Mayang Langjing. Despite the unsettling circumstances, Jiten expressed a cautious optimism, stating, “Now the situation is a bit stable, but we are uncertain about what the next developments might be. The firing has ceased for some time, but we have to remain vigilant.”
The incident underscores the tense atmosphere in Koutruk, Imphal West district, with the village volunteers’ defensive action preventing harm to civilians during the exchange of gunfire. The community remains on edge, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and a sense of uncertainty about the evolving circumstances in Koutruk.
