As done every year, the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), observed the 57th Hunger Marchers Day today.
A large number of students paid floral tributes to the martyrdom of Oinam Nabakumar, Laishram Chaobal, Nongmeikapam Pramodini and Waikhom Nilamani, who laid down their lives during the protest against the artificial scarcity of food in the state on August 27, 1965, at Pishum Chinga Hill
Patriotic fervour filled the air as a massive rally, which was participated by thousands of students and people in the state, marked the observance of 57th Hunger Marchers’ Day-2022.
The Hunger Marchers’ Day rally was organised by the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) in remembrance of the four martyrs, who laid down their lives for Manipur in the movement against artificial famine in 1965.
Several students came out in traditional attire to join the rally, which started from Pisum Chingamacha, Students Memorial Complex, Imphal West. The rally will culminate at DM University campus, Imphal west.
With a huge turnout for the rally, several office goers and other commuters en route faced long traffic jams.
District Committee of AMSU, Jiribam also observed the day at the conference hall of AMSU office, Jiribam. The programme was graced by L. Romen Singh, Ex-president, AMSU District Committee, Jiribam; Thanil Thokchom, President, AMSU District Committee, Jiribam and N. Sadananda Meitei, President, Jiri Development Organization, Jiribam as a Chief Guest, President and Guest of honour respectively.
From the invitees Dr Arun Kumar Mangang, Ex-president, AMSU Jiribam; Th. Brojen Singh, Ex-President, Jiri Development Organization and B.Sarat Sharma, Advisor, AMSU, Jiribam delivered speeches recalling the hunger marcher’s day in remembrance of the brave sacrifice of students for the sake of their motherland as well as talked on the various issues of Jiribam as like infiltration of outsiders, lack of work culture and appealed to the students to take their responsibilities as a future pillar of the nation.
