Imphal, May 16:

Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has questioned the intention of central government in the ongoing violence in Manipur. In a press release issued today by COCOMI, concerns were raised regarding the recent statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which was deemed whimsical and indicative of the central government’s lack of seriousness towards the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
Amit Shah’s characterization of the conflict as an ethnic issue rather than an act of terrorism by Kukis was criticized by COCOMI, highlighting what they perceive as a failure to acknowledge the gravity of the situation.
COCOMI expressed dismay over the central government’s apparent reluctance to take responsibility and demonstrate accountability in addressing the conflict, which has persisted for over a year. They pointed out the absence of accurate reports or statements from state and central agencies regarding the situation in Manipur, raising suspicions about the government’s intentions.
The press release raised the troubling possibility that the Indian government may be intentionally neglecting the welfare of the people of Manipur, exacerbating the ethnic tensions and violence in the region. COCOMI also criticized the role of the Assam Rifles, describing it as unsatisfactory and one-sided, contributing to the escalation of ethnic tensions and violence in Manipur.
