Allegation of Manipur State Commission for Women inaction wrong and baseless – Chairman, MSCW

Manipur State Commission for Women in a press release clarified the statement made by Asem Nirmala of Lukmai Senlup on October 7 on local news channel about the inaction of Manipur State Commission for Women in the brutal killing of Linthoingambi Hijam and Phijam Hemanjit by unknown Kuki miscreants is totally wrong and baseless. The State Women Commission registered a case bearing registration number 33 of 2023 before the Manipur State Commission for Women on July 27 (Hijam Ongbi Laitonjam Ningol Jayashree Devi versus State of Manipur) and had called a status report on 31.07.203 into the FIR No. 584(7) 2023 IPS u/s 366/368/34 IPC from the DGP, Manipur regarding the missing of Linthoingambi since July 6, 2023. The Commission also set August 16 or before as the returnable date of the report from the Police Department.
The Police Department sent their reply to the Commission on August 14 and also mentioned that due to the sensitive nature of the case, the said FIR case has been proposed to be transferred to the CBI for further investigation.

On September 27, the State Women Commission wrote a letter to the DGP, Manipur to take urgent steps to arrest all culprits involved in the murder of the two students and retrieve their bodies at the earliest if the viral photos of the two students are proven true.
The press release signed by Salam Ulka Devi, Chairperson, MSCW further said, “This Commission is not sitting idle on the State issues related to women and girls. We have been doing our best and will also continue to do so for the welfare of the women and girls in the State. All the proofs, regarding actions taken up by the State Women Commission in connection with missing of Linthoingambi can be seen from the Office of the Commission during office hours.”
The series of cases so far taken up by the MSCW is the regular case filed by Naorem Ongbi Manglembi Devi, Complaint Case no. 21/2023, Suo Motto case taken up in connection with parading naked of two tribal women by a mob on 5 May 2023 and also a letter was written to Central Administrator, One stop centre Churachandpur to submit the well being of the two tribal women. Suo Motto case was taken up in connection with alleged gang rape of a Meitei woman by 4/5 unknown Kuki miscreants. A missing case filed by Hijam Ongbi Laitonjam Ningol Jayshree Devi, Case no. 33/2023(missing minor girl) and the electrocution of Meitei womenfolk by the Central Security Personnel.
