Aimol Students’ Union condemns attack on Dr. Sialloa’s residence

Imphal, July 2:

The Aimol Students’ Union (ASUM) has strongly condemned the recent incident of looting and damage to the residence of Dr. Sialloa Khupkhothang Aimol, along with various medical equipment and properties. The incident occurred yesterday at Amazing Grace Dental Care on IST Street, New Lambulane near Tribal Market in Imphal East, during broad daylight.
In a press release issued by ASUM, the union expressed dismay over the lack of protection provided to Dr. Sialloa Khupkhothang Aimol’s home, despite the presence of Central Forces stationed nearby. Dr. Aimol, a government doctor dedicatedly serving the public round the clock, saw his residence targeted in the brazen attack.
“The presence of Central Forces right in front of his home did not prevent this unfortunate incident,” the press release stated. ASUM highlighted the apparent ineffectiveness of the state police and Central Forces deployed in the area, noting that they claimed to have no orders to intervene beyond routine duties.
ASUM voiced concerns over the recurring incidents of property damage and abduction in the region, criticizing the government’s silence on these matters. The union called for immediate action against those responsible for such criminal acts and urged against any repetition of such unethical behavior in the future.
“The majority of Meitei and various civil society organizations in the valley seek peace, but a few individuals taking advantage of the current crisis must not target properties or individuals belonging to the Naga Tribe,” the press release added. ASUM warned of stern consequences if such actions were repeated, emphasizing the need for unity and mutual respect among communities.
