In a press release, expressing deep sorry over the viral video episode, the Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) mocked at the gesture of the prime minister Narendra Modi in expressing his emotions over the viral incident without mentioning a single word over the ethnic devastation caused to Manipur by the Kuki militants in collusion with Burmese elements challenging a serious threat to the national security of India with the narco-terrorism activities in creating a sovereign Zalen’gam in the Indo-Burma region and shifting the Golden Triangle to Manipur. Questioning the utter silence of the prime minister over the burning alive of an elderly woman, Sorokhaibam Ibetombi (80) of Serou on May 28, 2023 by Kuki militants, the MIYC alleged as if Manipur was reeling under Indian colonialism under the spree of AFSPA, 1958 that led to gross violations of human rights including outraging the modesty of many Manipuri women.
Lamenting over the failure of the concerned authorities and the national media to assess the racial discrimination meted out to Meitei women in Indian metropolis like Delhi, Bangalore and other cities, the MIYC expressed its surprise in the response of the viral video including the prime minister and other Indian public figures. The Centre also questioned if there were not any rape cases of Meitei woman in the present crisis when Meitei houses are randomly attacked at late night on daily basis since the turmoil started on May 3, 2023. Narrating how India won the Kargil War by demolishing the Pakistan sponsored terrorists, the MIYC questioned why India did not launched its crackdown on the cross-border terrorism from Burma.
Taking hold of the accountability of any untoward incidents during the ongoing war for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur to the union government of India, the MIYC urged the parties to abide by the Common Article 3 of the Four Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949 under the International Humanitarian Law regime seeing the seriousness of the ongoing crisis drawing more and more towards non-international armed conflict with rampant civilian casualties and Indian security forces.
The MIYC release also claimed about the existence of building of bunkers dug out by using JCBs at Kanglatombi, Mapao, Kongba Maru, Senjam Chirang etc and urged the authorities to stop destruction of bunkers in the valley and seize carrying out combing operations. It also urged the people to stand united during this crisis.
