The World Coffee Conference & Expo was inaugurated today at Bangalore Palace, Karnataka. This global gathering, now in its 5th edition, will run until September 28. The event is jointly organized by the Coffee Board of India, the International Coffee Organization, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
Over the course of four days, the WCC 2023 will bring together leaders and decision-makers from more than 80 countries. The conference aims to provide a prominent platform for discussions, debates, and collaborations on building a sustainable coffee industry, from the cultivation of beans to the final cup. The underlying theme for this year event is “Sustainability through the circular economy and regenerative agriculture”. It encompasses a three-day conference, a B2B exhibition, skill-building workshops, a Global CEO conclave, and networking events.

K G Jagadeesha, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the Coffee Board of India, expressed his excitement, stating, “India’s approval by the ICO to host this event is a significant recognition of our country as a major coffee producer. To make it truly exceptional, vibrant, and memorable, the board has received active support from 16 coffee committees, each comprising 25 diverse stakeholders.
Jagadeesha further emphasized the quality of Indian coffee. He stated, “Our Robusta variety is unparalleled in terms of its quality and is considered the best in the world. Although our Arabica is ranked second, it commands a premium on par with Colombian Arabica, which is renowned as the finest globally. Ultimately, perception plays a crucial role. Colombia has successfully conducted extensive consumer campaigns,” added Jagadeesha.
The Chief Executive Officer also highlighted that India’s coffee exports currently exceed $1 billion. He anticipates that the WCC will have an immediate positive impact, leading to a 10-15% increase in export volume and value growth for Indian coffees in international markets.
The conference is expected to attract 2,000 delegates from over 80 countries. Coffee startups, coffee roasters, specialty coffee growers, and small farmers will also showcase their finest products. WCC2023 offers valuable opportunities for entrepreneurs, retailers, café owners, and business leaders who are seeking high-quality coffee beans or investment prospects.
