2 killed, 2 injured in gunshots by suspected militants at the Periphery between Imphal West and Kangpokpi district

A day after suspected armed Kuki militants fired towards a group of farmers who went for cultivation at paddy fields located near Phubala Maning Ching in Bishnupur district, gunfights between the Kuki militants and the Village defenders were reported from three locations at the periphery areas between Imphal West and Kangpokpi district since early morning today.
According to initial report, at least two village defenders and a civilian were killed, and two others sustained injury. Among the two deceased one is a merchant navy identified as Waikhom Boicha Meitei (age 35) son of W. Iboyaima of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai. The other deceased has been identified as Konsam Herojit Meitei (age 37) son of K. Santrok from Senjam Khunou Maning Leikai. Those injured have been identified as Heramani Yumnam (38 years) from Litan Ningoi and L. Milan (32 years) of Haoreibi Awang Leikai.
Boicha Meitei, a merchant navy by profession went to Senjam Chirang Village to meet his friend according to his relatives, he was reportedly hit by a bullet coming from Haoraothel village site near the village. He succumbed to the bullet injury on the way to hospital. Konsam Herojit reportedly died on the spot after being hit by a bullet. Heramani Yumnam and L. Milan sustained injury after they were hit by the splinters of the blast at Phayeng Koutruk. A bullet also hit at the leg of L. Milan at the same place.
According to report, gunshots were heard from three locations at close proximity of Haraothel, Molnoi and Khongsang villages since 5 am today morning. Gunshots and bomb blasts were heard till 1 pm today afternoon from the site.
Report also added that Assam Rifles troops and Manipur Police rushed to the site and tried their best to keep the situation under control.
According to a Facebook post by Spearcorps of the Indian army, Unprovoked firing by Armed Rioters towards Village Haraothel commenced at 5.30 AM. Own troops deployed in the area immediately mobilised to prevent escalation of the situation. While enroute to the site, own columns drew effective fire from armed rioters. Own troops responded in a calibrated manner to prevent any collateral damage. Swift action by troops resulted in the cessation of firing. Additional columns moved to the area. Unconfirmed reports indicate some casualties. Build-up of large crowds in the area was also reported. Situation being closely monitored and further details will follow.
