Protest erupts at Thamnapokpi against attack by Kuki militants

IT News
Imphal, July 4:

Women have staged a protest at Thamnapokpi Awang Leikai against recent attacks by Kuki militants, with the community expressing deep frustrations, particularly over the arrest of village volunteers during ongoing military actions.
“The war is not over, yet our village volunteers are being unjustly arrested. This must stop,” stated protester Oinam Chandrabali, strongly criticizing combing operations that target local volunteers.
Chandrabali highlighted the presence of bunkers constructed by Kukis in nearby Yaingangpokpi and Thamnapokpi areas, emphasizing that these installations, situated on hills, should be dismantled to restore peace.
She recounted incidents from June 2, detailing attacks on Shanti Khongbal, Sanasabi areas, and the Urangpat hilltop, underscoring the escalating tensions in the region.
Further criticism was directed at authorities, including the Jat Regiment, police departments, and local MLAs, alleging ineffective responses despite assurances. “Earlier, security forces conducted combing operations, but instead of reducing threats, bunkers have multiplied, enabling potential attacks from advantageous hilltop positions,” she lamented.
