Imphal, July 3:

Prime Minister has finally broken his silence on Manipur today saying that the central government and the state government are trying its best to bring lasting peace in Manipur keeping in mind the history and the society of the state.
In a speech at Rajya Sabha today which lasted for almost two hours, he spoke on Manipur for nearly five minutes. This is the second time; he has mentioned Manipur since the beginning of the violent crisis in Manipur last year.
Addressing the situation in Manipur, today in Rajya Sabha he acknowledged the ongoing crisis but stressed that both the central and state governments are taking significant steps to restore peace and stability. “More than 11,000 FIRs have been filed, and over 500 people have been arrested. Violence is getting curbed, and we can hope for peace,” he said. He noted that essential services, including schools, hospitals, and exam schedules, are functioning normally.
The PM also pointed out the collaborative efforts to manage the recent flooding in Manipur, emphasizing the need to move beyond politics to achieve peace. “The central government is doing everything to support the state government. We have to go beyond politics and bring peace and stability,” he urged.
He concluded by reflecting on Manipur’s historical struggles and criticized political opponents for attempting to exploit the situation for political gain. “Congress should remember the ten times of presidential rule. It has not happened this time. Many politicians are attempting to take political advantage. In 1993, similar incidents happened and lasted for five years. We need to address this carefully by understanding history,” the PM remarked.
Moreover, he has emphasized the government’s swift progress in the Northeast, claiming that achievements made in five years would have taken the Congress two decades. “We worked very fast. Connectivity has improved,” he stated.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to peace in the region, noting efforts to resolve territorial conflicts between states and engage with various insurgent groups. “All the violent groups or insurgent groups have been in dialogue with the government, and law and order is improving,” the PM asserted.
