JD(U) Manipur leaders urge Central Govt to address conflict

The conflict between Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur, ongoing for the past 14 months, has prompted leaders from the JD(U) Manipur State Unit to call for urgent intervention from the Prime Minister and Home Minister to restore peace and tranquility. JD(U) Manipur State Unit Vice President Shanjoy Ahanthem and Secretary General Maisnam Dorendro met with Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur at his official residence in Swarna Jayanti Sadan, New Delhi, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution to the conflict.
During the meeting, the leaders detailed the severe impact of the ongoing violence since May 3 and urged Minister Ramnath Thakur to bring the matter to the attention of the central government. They highlighted the importance of preserving Manipur’s heritage and culture, stressing the state’s potential as a significant contributor to India’s unity and diversity. Minister Ramnath Thakur assured them of his support, indicating that he would take necessary steps to address the situation.
The delegation also met with JD(U) Senior MP Ramprith Mandal at North Avenue, New Delhi, who expressed a keen understanding of the conflict’s gravity and pledged to advocate for a peaceful resolution. The leaders highlighted the backing of JD(U) National President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has urged the Prime Minister and Home Minister to prioritize the restoration of peace in Manipur.
