Schoolgirl slain in Thoubal District, locals demands justice

Imphal, June 6:

Tragedy struck the serene streets of Thoubal district as a young schoolgirl fell victim to a heinous crime, sending shockwaves through the community and igniting a fierce wave of protests. Jenika Devi Sapam, a bright sixth-grade student of Ibemhal Visal Academy, met a tragic end on her way to school, mercilessly attacked by a man wielding a shovel in the early hours of the morning.
The serene morning of Sapam Sabal Leikai Khongjom turned into a nightmare as Jenika’s life was abruptly taken away at around 7:15 AM. Despite valiant efforts to save her, the young girl succumbed to her injuries at Shija Hospital, leaving her family and the entire community reeling in grief and disbelief.
The perpetrator of this senseless act, identified as Sapam Sarat Singh, a 45-year-old resident of the same locality, was swiftly apprehended by enraged locals and handed over to authorities. However, the swift action did little to quell the rising tide of anger and outrage.
In response to the brutal killing, local clubs and Meira Paibi banded together to form the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Brutal Killing of Jenika Devi Sapam. The committee wasted no time in presenting their demands, calling for nothing short of capital punishment for the accused within a mere 24-hour window. Furthermore, they demanded the expulsion of the perpetrator’s family from the Khongjom Circle area, holding them accountable for the atrocious actions of one of their own.
The JAC’s stance is firm and resolute, warning of escalating protests and movements should their demands for swift and severe justice remain unmet. Until justice is served, Jenika’s grieving family refuses to accept her body, standing united with the community in their pursuit of justice and ensuring that such a tragic loss is never repeated again.
