Imagi Meira raises concerns over State Assembly inactivity

IT News
Imphal, Jan 29:

Imagi Meira has expressed concerns regarding the inactivity of the state assembly. Thokchom Sujata, Convenor of Imagi Meira, conveyed these concerns during her press statement, highlighting that the Privilege and Ethics Committee is not holding its sessions. Sujata emphasized that the women of the region are urging the committee to convene, collectively address the issue of the Kuki MLAs, and take necessary steps.
Adding to the concerns, it has been disclosed that the Speaker is currently in Delhi, while both the Secretary and Joint Secretary are out of station. Imagi Meira is urging these officials to reconvene the assembly promptly to address the pressing matters at hand.
Furthermore, Thokchom Sujata highlighted that “if the MLAs came to Kangla with the intention of resolving issues, the question is why an assembly sitting did not take place.” The query extends to whether the assembly should consider dissolution if there are no plans to convene sessions.
Expressing genuine apprehension, the Convenor of Imagi Meira raised doubts about the effectiveness of the Kangla resolution, questioning whether it might be reduced to just another memorandum without tangible results. This underscores the urgency for the assembly to actively engage in resolving the issues and fulfilling its responsibilities to the public.
