Jiribam District comes to a standstill in protest of Merger Anniversary

IT Correspondent
Jiribam, Oct 15 :

Jiribam District witnessed a complete shutdown on Sunday as a mark of protest organized by CorCom, condemning the merger of the former kingdom into the Indian union.
This historic day, October 15, marked the declaration of Manipur’s merger into the Indian Union through the notorious ‘Merger Agreement’ signed in 1949.
During the strike, shops, public transport, and various business establishments closed their doors, leaving the town in a state of isolation. Notably, financial institutions and educational centers remained shut for the day, though this was facilitated by it being a Sunday.
The impact of the strike was felt across the town, with even small shops in the villages joining in solidarity and keeping their shutters down. Fortunately, there were no reported untoward incidents during this period of protest.
The local Jiribam District Police were on high alert, with personnel strategically stationed throughout the area to ensure the maintenance of law and order and to respond promptly to any potential issues.
