Imphal, Aug 30:

Approximately 300 trucks loaded with essential items are currently stuck in the Lairou area of Senapati district in Manipur, which borders Nagaland due to the indefinite blockade enforced by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU). For many years, Manipur has relied heavily on imported essential items from mainland India.
These trucks have been stranded in Lairou since August 18, and despite 12 days passing, the government has not provided any security personnel to protect them or assist in their transportation to Imphal. As a result, the drivers and workers are experiencing difficulties and falling ill.
On August 17, COTU, located in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District of Manipur, issued an ultimatum to the state government. They demanded the reinstatement of the highway blockade along NH-2 Imphal-Dimapur and NH-37 Imphal-Silchar if essential commodities did not reach the Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, including Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, and Kangpokpi districts.
In response to the blockade, the State Government has stated that an alternative supply chain has been established to transport essential goods to the Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, particularly in Churachandpur district. Due to the disruption of the Imphal-Dimapur supply chain, these commodities will be transported via Silchar and Aizawl.
