Imphal, Aug 5:

National General Secretary of Republican Party of India (RPI) Athawale, Maheshwar Thounaojam today came down heavily to the Assam Rifles troops stating that the people of Manipur are facing hard times and its no time for the troop to dance.
“It’s not ‘Gaana Gaana’ times”, Maheshwar told to Assam Rifles troops referring to a video that went viral on social media in which an officer of the Assam Rifles was seen dancing and singing with the people in Kangpokpi district.
He said that State forces (Manipur Police) are firing tear gas shells and mock bombs at the agitators at Imphal and other places to suppress their agitation, however, the Assam Rifles troops are remaining as silent spectators to any attack by the armed Kuki militants at civilian Meitei villages.
“When Meitei people protest here in Imphal the Manipur Police fired tear gas shell and mock bombs and disperse them. That means the state forces are neutral and are performing their duty as per the constitution of the country. However, when the people are facing hardship the Assam rifles are singing and dancing with the Kuki people”, Maheshwar told media persons in New Delhi.
The RPI (Athawale) general secretary said that the attitude of the Assam Rifles showed that they are supporting the Kuki militants and their demand. He however said that he doesn’t have any problem when the Assam Rifles troops are protecting the civilian population however, he said that he will strongly stand against any support to the armed Kuki militants by any security forces. As the Assam Rifles are not playing neutral role in Manipur, they should be removed from the state immediately.
“I demand the Assam Rifles be removed from the state”, Maheshwar Thounaojam told media persons today. He also condemn in the strongest term the killing of the three Meitei people by armed Kuki militants in their houses at Kwakta early today morning.
