Imphal, June 27:

Lourembam Ngangbi, President of All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), has spoken out about the hardships faced by innocent people due to the activities of Chin Kuki and SoO terrorists in Manipur since May 3, 2023.
During a press conference held at Manipur Press Club in Majorkhul, Ngangbi expressed her dismay regarding recent news reports suggesting that Manipur would be divided into two administrative regions, with the valley under the control of the Chief Minister of Manipur and the Kuki areas falling under the jurisdiction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Ngangbi stated, “Yesterday, we read in a newspaper about the proposed division, but today the CM clarified that he never made such a statement. This contradiction has left us confused, and we seek clarification on whether it was the CM or the newspaper that was not accurate.”
Ngangbi highlighted the residents’ concerns regarding drug production and poppy plantations in Manipur, stating that when they raise these issues, the Union Home Minister refuses to listen or take appropriate action. However, when Kuki terrorists carry out attacks on innocent citizens, Amit Shah promises to bring the situation under control. This inconsistency raises questions about the government’s approach and priorities.
The AMKIL President further expressed her opinion that the central government seems more interested in acquiring land than in protecting the people of Manipur. She emphasized the need to hold Kuki militants accountable for violating the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. Additionally, Ngangbi called for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in order to address concerns related to citizenship and safeguard the interests of the residents.
