Imphal, June 26:

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) comes out with slashing criticism to the Chief Minister of Manipur over his statement at Imphal Airport yesterday evening in connection with the administration of Manipur.
N. Biren Singh had stated that the administration for the hill area will be looked after by the Union Home Minister while the administration for the valley area will be done by the government. MPCC working President Kh. Devabratta while speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan today said that the Congress party and the people could not accept the partition of the administration in the state.
“The people have elected them and when the assembly is still there how could the state government look after only the valley area”, Devabratta said adding that Chief Minister is for the state of Manipur and if he cannot administer the state irrespective of hill and plain ‘he (N. Biren) should resign.
“We are not recommending central rule or president rule as we have an elected government, but if the Chief Minister could not handle the situation he better resign and put someone who can govern the state”, the state congress leader told media persons.
He said that the present government was formed after the popular election in 2022. It is a mandate of the people of the state. There is no point in adopting separate administration for the hill by the central government and the valley by chief minister N Biren Singh. The chief minister of a particular state should represent the whole community.
“The Chief Minister is the authority for the administration of the state. In India, during disasters or riots in Gujarat, there were no two administrations how could there be two administrations in the state of Manipur”, Devabratta questioned and said that such arrangements are absolutely “divisive in nature” which Congress will not accept at any cost”.
The Congress leader further added that Article 355 was also not enforced and how could there be two administrations in the state, the MPCC leader told the newsmen.
Alleging the BJP of taking support from Kuki militants during the election, Devabratta said that there will be a big threat to internal security if Kuki militants had asked to return their help to the central government they extended during the election.
“On what basis, the Home Minister is going to deal with the unrest in hill areas? It is very much doubtful as BJP got support from Kuki militants during election time. What will be the consensus and compromise for BJP to end the unrest,” the MPCC leader told media persons.
