After ICDS, NHRC sent another notice to CS failure of Mid Day Meal program in Schools in Manipur
Imphal May 30: After ICDS, the National Human Rights Commission has issued another notice to the Chief Secretary, Manipur calling for a report on a complaint alleging severe irregularities in supply of mid-day meal in Government run schools. The Commission has given these directions after taking cognizance of a complaint filed by ‘Wide Angle Social Development Organization’ an NGO working on Child Rights which is based in Manipur. The Chief Secretary has been given four weeks time to respond and the Hon’ble NHRC has requested a high level inquiry in the matter. The complaint has been made by the organization after a study was conducted under the European Union support which found that there were lots of report from various circles that the quantity of rice allocated for the children under Mid Day Meal scheme is never at par with the actual allocation for each and every government schools i.e. 50kg allocation were found only 30kg to 40kg. In many occasion our volunteers and workers have come across siphoning of rice meant for children under the Mid Day Meal scheme which is sold in the black market with the connivance of school authorities and the other agencies which amounted to the violation of Right to Life & Right to Food of children in Manipur. A News report of DI being caught by locals was also attached along with news clippings wherein the issue of corruption in implementation of mid-day meal scheme has been reported.
